10 comments:
read Angels and Demons before you read The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown). I also suggest Ian McEwan's Enduring Love, Atonement, Between the Sheets and I've heard Saturday is good though I've not read it yet.
A History of God - Karen Armstrong
East of Eden - John Steinbeck
I appreciate the comments. They'll get added after I finish some more books, because it's depressing for the list to grow faster than I cross them off. Also, for people who give me future suggestions, I want to know what you think I should read, but I also want to know WHY you think I should read it ;-)
Love, peace, and hair grease!
Mein Kampf-Hitler
Tuesday's with Morrie (not sure of the author)
Who we'll see when we get to Heaven (same author as above..title may be slightly different)
Watership Down-Richard Adams
1984 & Animal Farm- Orson Wells (Animal Farm comparisons to the Bush administration run amuck!)
Sword of Truth series- Terry Goodkind (A MUST READ-11 books in the series though, be careful before starting...you won't want to stop..I spent many a night reading thru on this series...)
Re-read Catcher in the Rye
Anything Stephen King and over 500 pages
Flight of the Intruder-Stephen Coonts
The Car- Gary Paulsen
read the phanton tollbooth
seriously...its a childrens book but it is so fun you wont give a fuck
I think it's "The Five People You Meet in Heaven."
I wanted to see what AS suggested for your reading pleasure, but I don't see it on here.
The Closing of the American Mind by Allan Bloom
Read Hyperion by Dan Simmons, a great blend of scifi, mixed with regigious and political overtones.
You've read a lot, that's cool. You might be interested in some Toni Morrison (The Bluest Eye, Beloved- beware, emotionally difficult), Jamaica Kincaid (A Small Place- eye opening, interesting), Ralph Ellison (Invisible Man- thought-provoking), James Baldwin (Go Tell It on the Mountain- since you are religious, I think you could relate to this one), Flannery O'Connor (A Good Man is Hard to Find- collection of short stories, twisted and great).
Just trying to add a little diversity to your list :)
Oh, and I love Steinbeck. East of Eden is my favorite.
There is always soooo much to read!!!
Quite a reading list, and t may be years before you have the room, but two books by A. Augustine are worth a look. "City of God" for a good perspective on eternity and "Confessions" for a map of one very smart person's spiritual journey.
Nice to meet you, btw
Bruce
