Viva La Musica

Good song. I'll be back with you as soon as I'm finished reading Ayn Rand. I miss you, the internet.

I was reading America the Book and was amused to see that on the back cover, it had "Praise for America the Book." (All jokes of course, no real reviews) Anyway, there was a fake review from Ayn Rand that said something like, "This is similar to my works in that anyone who reads it is sure to be an asshole for at least a month afterward. It made me think of you, not because I think you are an asshole, but because you are the only person I know so addicted to Ayn Rand. Which, by the way, is a kind of unpleasant sounding name.

I am kind of an asshole for reading Ayn Rand, but only by the standards of a society which rejects her ideals as malicious or base (read: dangerous). I do not.

In the same way, her name sounds unpleasant by the standards of the English language. Ms. Rand is Russian. Vladimir Putin. Boris Yeltsin. The Jacks and Toms of America. I agree that her name is no "cellar door", but she has mastered the English language in a way unparalleled by any native tongue alive today or for centuries past. The name bears infinitely more beauty when the ideas it represents (not to mention the eloquence with which they are presented) are carried with it.

Am I really the only one you know who's "addicted" to Ayn Rand?
